Do over pronators get injured more frequently?

It’s long been believed that, if you over pronate, you’re more likely to suffer a running injury. That’s why we have so many motion control shoes with so many types of plastic, dual density foam and other materials to control our pronation.

However, is this actually true?

It appears that it might not be. This study with a pretty impressive sample size suggests that there is no real correlation between pronation and injury rates while wearing neutral shoes. In fact, by the strict numbers, slightly fewer “highly pronated” runners got hurt than neutral runners. Just not a statistically significant difference.

How well do elite athletes sleep? Well, according to this study of Olympians with an even more impressive sample size, probably about as well as you and me. It’s pretty interesting to see that elite athletes have the same sleep struggles as the average person. Good sleep helps but it’s not necessary to do well.

How do women respond to strength training? While almost all of the research in the past has been on men, the good news is that in this case it appears women are not much different than men.

Do ice baths help or hurt? The answer is much more nuanced than that question makes it sound. Here’s more evidence, though, that ice baths may weaken the very stimulus for fitness gains that we are looking for when we do workouts. In other words, taking an ice bath after a workout might actually lessen the benefit you get from that workout. Admittedly, this was in strength training but it appears the same happens for endurance training.
